Meinhardt Dazzles at Light Festival

The LED fishing rods designed by Meinhardt's specialist Light Studio are now on display at The Helix Bridge, leading to the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort.

To celebrate the new waterfront promenade in Singapore, over 20 international lighting designers including Meinhardt, have been invited to showcase their illuminated creations at iLight Marina Bay – Asia’s first sustainable light art festival.

Inspired by Singapore’s historical past as a fishing village, the team at Meinhardt has created large fishing rods with hand crank electricity generators as the ‘reels’. Each rod weighs approximately 3 to 5kg, and is affixed with an LED line before being mounted on the balustrade of The Helix Bridge.

Titled WattFish?, Meinhardt’s installation is designed to visually complement The Helix Bridge and to encourage public interaction through the winding of ‘reels’ to power LED lighting on the fishing lines.
